Mercedes says it may change ‘leather seats’ claims

According to the Daily Mail, a customer from Newcastle successfully applied for a full refund because parts of the upholstery on the seats in the Mercedes E-Class SE he bought were made from synthetic material. The brochure the customer looked through before buying the car states that leather seats come as standard, but laboratory testing in Northampton that the customer paid for showed that only the middle part of the seat was leather-covered.
A spokesperson for Mercedes confirmed to the newspaper that what it means in its statement in the brochure is that the E-Class SE has seats for which the main surface area is covered in leather, while other parts of the seat are upholstered in a synthetic material. “We are investigating altering the wording in our brochures to ensure this is made clearer,” the spokesperson said.
The Daily Mail quoted a lawyer who said Mercedes could face further claims if, when making a buying decision, customers have relied on information that turns out to be inaccurate.
