China growth not enough for Mercedes-Benz in Q1

11/04/2019
Automotive group Mercedes-Benz delivered a total of 560,873 passenger cars during the first quarter of 2019, a decline of 5.6% compared to the same period of last year.

This drop came despite the group achieving its best ever sales quarter in China. In the first three months of the year it delivered 174,343 to this market, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year.

The strong performance in this region was offset by lower sales in Europe (-5.6%) and the NAFTA region (-9.9%).

Announcing the results, Mercedes-Benz said the first quarter had seen important model changes in the high-volume SUV and compact-car segments. It added that it expects increasing vehicle availability in the coming months to result in a slight overall increase in full-year sales.
