Mercedes-Benz to manufacture for the Russian market in Moscow

Automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has announced that its E-Class sedan will be the first vehicle to roll off the production line at its new plant in the Moscow region.

The company unveiled plans to invest €250 million in 2017. The more than 1,000 employees working there will make cars for the Russian market. It also intends to make SUV models there in the future. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin was among the guests of honour at the official opening of the facility.

At the ceremony, Markus Schäfer, the Mercedes-Benz board member in charge of production and supply chain, said: “Our investments in the new Mercedes-Benz plant in Russia are an important switch for our global production network to become even more flexible and to produce close to the market.”
