CSCB a “guiding light” for Brazilian tanneries
18/08/2017
The event is organised by Brazil’s main tanning industry association CICB. This year’s sponsors included Stahl, JBS Couros and Lanxess.
The conference, which had as its theme ‘Disruptive Businesses for a Disruptive World’, was opened by Kepler Euclides Filho, a lead researcher for The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). He revealed that agribusiness currently accounts for 23% of Brazil’s national GDP, 43% of its exports an 32% of its jobs.
This year, the forum took time to highlight the success stories of two young entrepreneurs who had built a business around leather. Gustavo Oliveira launched Cutterman & Co., a brand specialising in men’s leathergoods, while Renato Pereira created the Escudero handbag brand. Both are on course for successful sales figures in 2017, having moved from careers outside of the leather industry.
A group of representatives from four tanneries then gave details about some of the successful projects initiated by the CSCB. Manoela Junqueira Becker, deputy director of Curtume Mats, described CSCB as a “guiding light” for the company in the face of changing market trends.
The forum was closed with a panel dedicated to the topic of technology, innovation and industry 4.0. It was moderated by CICB executive president José Fernando Bello.
