Located near the city of Presidente Prudente in the state of São Paulo, Vitapelli processes 3.5 million hides per year, making wet blue, crust and finished leather and has customers in the footwear, leathergoods and automotive sectors.
Director Paulo Cesar Faustino said taking part in CSCB will reinforce his company’s commitment to high standards.
The main industry body in Brazil, CICB, announced the new sustainability certification programme in 2013 and fully launched the initiative in 2015. Based on what CICB calls the three pillars of sustainability (economics, the environment and social responsibility) audits examining 173 different indicators are carried out by Brazil’s National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), following which tanners can obtain bronze, silver, gold and diamond certification.
