Fendi’s footwear masterclasses will keep skills alive

Luxury brand Fendi is launching masterclasses on footwear at the Ostilio Ricci State Professional Institute for Industry and Crafts in Fermo to train a new generation of artisans to work with "precision, dexterity and creativity" as part of a project spearheaded by industry association Altagamma.
The company is the first of 15 that will work with schools to promote "Italian know-how", consolidate the school-business alliance and help reduce the level of youth unemployment.
It is vital that the skills are passed to the next generation, said Stefania Lazzaroni, general manager of Altagamma.
"Adopt a School is an initiative that responds to the problem of the lack of skills in the industry of Italian excellence: we estimate that there will be around 270,000 technical professionals who, in the various high-end sectors, will be missing between now and 2025,” she said.
She added that new technologies will enhance this skillset. “Preserving it, updating it and promoting it right from secondary education is an imperative for the entire industry.”
