Hermès expands French leatherworking footprint
28/09/2021
When completed, the addition of the new site will mark the second in the company’s leathergoods and saddlery “hub” in the area, the other being its maroquinerie des Ardennes in Bogny-sur-Meuse, established in 2004.
In order to provide employment and skills development opportunities, local partners have been specially chosen for the recruitment and training of leatherworkers. All artisans recruited will have the opportunity to achieve the CAP Maroquinerie diploma in leatherwork following additional vocational training at the brand’s own École Hermès des Savoir-Faire from February 2022.
Hermès began the rollout of its in-house apprenticeship training centres in early September. Ultimately, according to the company, a centre is planned for each of its leatherworking hubs across France.
