Chloé revamps vintage Edith bags with leftover leather
Uruguayan designer Gabriela Hearst recently showed her first collection as artistic director of French luxury fashion house Chloé during Paris Fashion Week’s autumn-winter 2021 schedule.
Included in Ms Hearst’s offering were fifty reimagined vintage Edith bags, revitalised with surplus autumn-winter 2021 fabrics including leather and silk. No two of these bags are alike. “New isn’t always better,” the green-minded designer told British Vogue.
One bag (pictured) featured signature Chloé scallops in leather, upcycled from material used to make a leather trench coat presented by the house’s creative team for the colder months.
“My first luxury handbag was the Chloé Edith bag, and it is a piece I still love and wanted to pay homage to,” Ms Hearst added.
With this in mind, Chloé has also reissued the Edith bag for the autumn-winter season. While staying true to its original design, the new Edith family includes a mini version, a tote and a doctor’s bag.
Additional leathergoods pieces, new for the season, included the Juana bag in patchwork leather and scalloped quilting, which, according to Vogue, is a tribute to Chloé founder, Gaby Aghion’s technical fabrications.
Ms Hearst’s debut collection for the Paris-headquartered brand was “four times as sustainable” as last year’s, the publication said.
