Deadstock hides chosen for Patou’s first bag
French luxury label Patou, founded in 1914 and purchased by LVMH in 2018, recently released its first leather handbag collection, made from deadstock hides in limited, numbered quantities.
New colours will be released in streetwear-like drops over time, the house said, with the first editions released in hues ranging from black to poppy red. Due to the nature of surplus, only 120 black bags were created, with as little as 45 made in the poppy colour.
Discussing the collection with Vogue, designer Guillaume Henry commented on his choice of materials: “Leather is like a beautiful chair - it’s precious. And the quality of these leathers is beautiful.”
The model, named Le Patou, will serve as Patou’s only handbag style, Mr Henry added.
