Luxury leathergoods brand Mansur Gavriel, headquartered in New York City, recently released its first upcycled capsule, comprising five limited-edition tote styles handwoven from its own archived veg-tanned leather trimmings.

The latest in a series of luxury companies looking to surplus leather stocks for supplies recently, the label emphasised how the Upcycled Woven Tote bag supported its sustainability credentials by helping it minimise waste by maximising the use value of existing materials. 

Founders Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel commented: “We’ve always loved the richness of our veg-tanned leathers, so we never wanted to throw the excess away. It felt natural that such a leather would be used for an upcycling project, where we could bring together some of our favourite colour combinations and repurpose the pieces to weave something new and beautiful together.”

Made by hand in Italy, the handbags are available exclusively via the brand’s website.
