Described as “a feat of artisanal engineering” by the brand, Bottega Veneta creative director Matthieu Blazy’s new leathergoods effort, the Kalimero handbag, is now available for limited pre-order following its autumn-winter 2022 runway debut in Milan last month.

Introduced as a key element of the fashion show’s opening look, Mr Blazy’s “new approach” to the brand’s key intreccio technique is writ large over the entirely hand-woven Kalimero, which boasts no stitches, according to the label.

Unlined, the Italian-made bucket bag is 100% calfskin, minus its metallic ring hardware, which allows for a sliding shoulder strap with a knotted end. Crafted in four different colours (“Barolo”, “cob”, “bone” and “butter”), it retails for £5,800 (around $7,50) in the UK.

At the time of Mr Blazy’s appointment, Bottega Veneta chief executive, Leo Rongone, stated that he trusted the designer with further enhancing the luxury brand’s modern relevance, while also accelerating its growth and “preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta”.
