Following the departure of former creative director Daniel Lee, Kering-owned luxury fashion and leathergoods brand Bottega Veneta has announced the appointment of Mr Lee’s replacement, effective immediately.
French and Belgian national Matthieu Blazy is now creative director of the Italian house, having previously worked as its ready-to-wear design director since 2020. Prior to joining Bottega Veneta, Mr Blazy enjoyed stints at Calvin Klein, Celine, Maison Martin Margiela and Raf Simons.
A graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, the designer currently works between Antwerp and Milan. He will present his first collection for Bottega Veneta in February 2022.
Chairman and chief executive of Kering, François-Henri Pinault, commented: “The very solid foundations, specific codes and unique identity of Bottega Veneta enable us to nurture great ambitions for the future of this luxury house.
“I am confident that Matthieu Blazy’s wealth of experience and broad cultural background will allow him to bring his creative impetus to the task of carrying on the legacy of Bottega Veneta.”
The brand’s chief executive, Leo Rongone, described its newly appointed creative director as “extraordinarily talented”, adding that he was proud and excited to entrust Mr Blazy with further enhancing the luxury label’s modern relevance, while also accelerating its growth and “preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta”.
