Three Parisian labels retain value best, says Rebag
Rebag, a New York-based online reseller of pre-owned luxury handbags, has published its second annual Clair (standing for “comprehensive luxury appraisal index for resale”) report, which it described as being based on six years of regularly updated data.
Focusing on retained brand value after purchase, the report found that handbags purchased from Parisian labels Hermès (a “unicorn”), Louis Vuitton and Chanel (both “safe bets”) all performed the best in the market.
Hermès bags reportedly retained 90% of their retail value on average. Louis Vuitton was ranked second (holding 80% of its value, up 17% on the previous year) and Chanel (keeping 75% of its value, up 12% on last year) third.
Rebag noted that Bottega Veneta, especially, had climbed its charts in a significant way. Rebag observed that the label’s bags now retain an average of 50% of their retail value, up from 38% in 2020 and 28% in 2019.
