Pre-loved Gucci is TheRealReal’s top pick
San Francisco-based luxury reseller The RealReal recently released its latest luxury resale report for 2021, based on information collected from its 23 million-plus members and the sales data gathered from its more than 19 million items sold.
According to the platform, Kering-owned Italian fashion and leathergoods house Gucci has been the most bought and sold brand of 2021 so far. Purchases of the brand via The RealReal surged 62% and consignment figures increased by 61% year on year.
The market for vintage handbags, the most popular of which for the platform was Gucci’s Jackie, witnessed their average selling prices grow significantly faster than their present-day counterparts, the reseller stated. (The pre-owned Jackie’s average selling price is around 2.2 times more expensive than a current-year Jackie, for example.)
Generation Z provided the company with the highest level of year-on-year growth in terms of both buyers (up 33%) and consignors (up 86%), it said.
