Gucci Gaok to open in Seoul’s Itaewon
Kering-owned luxury goods house Gucci is set to open a new flagship boutique in Seoul’s Itaewon neighbourhood on May 29.
The new retail space, which will be branded as Gucci Goak (goak meaning house in Korean), is the Florence-headquartered house’s second flagship footprint in the South Korean capital.
Local media reports approved of the match, describing Gucci’s “unique” and creative sensibility as complemetary to both Itaewon’s lively, modern and international spirit and Korea’s traditional, hospitality-oriented culture.
Gucci-themed gosa images, reminiscent of local shamanistic practices, have been released ahead of the store’s opening for good luck, while the brand has also partnered with homegrown cultural acts such as Seoul’s Ambiguous contemporary dance company to drum up interest and excitement around the launch event.
