Signs of revitalisation for Samsung’s Colombo

Samsung Construction and Trading Corporation (Samsung C&T), the South Korean owner of luxury Italian leathergoods brand Colombo Via della Spiga (Colombo), founded in Milan in 1955, has begun showing signs of actively developing the brand for the Korean market.

Having initially purchased Colombo in 2011, Samsung C&T unveiled its first Colombo-branded store since it made the acquisition on August 27. The boutique opened alongside the wider launch of the second Shinsegae department store branch in the city of Daejeon, which is itself located in the country’s central region.

According to local media, Colombo also plans to unveil an online store to meet what it described as rising demand for its leathergoods by early October.

Further, the brand reportedly intends to expand and “strengthen” its product range through the recent recruitment of industry veterans, who the company said will work to incorporate the needs of a wide range of age groups in the product design process, while maintaining Colombo’s “unique” brand values and concept.
