Hermès unveils new addresses in Daegu and Hong Kong

French luxury house Hermès unveiled two new East Asian addresses in early December.

In Daegu, South Korea, the house opened a 330 square-metres space in a corner site within the Shinsegae department store.

Designed by the Parisian architecture agency RDAI, the new Hermès location at Shinsegae “significantly expands” upon the previous Daegu site in both size and “finely-crafted design”, the company said in a press release.

To celebrate the opening, two windows will display sculptural and photographic art assemblages (which integrate Hermès objects) by South Korean artist Osang Gwon, on the theme of “A trip to another joyful place”.

In Hong Kong, where Hermès opened its first location in 1975, the house revealed a 610 square-metres store - nearly double the size of the former - inside the Harbour City shopping centre, which overlooks the city’s Victoria Harbour.

Also designed by RDAI, the Harbour City store’s façade has been remodelled with a roof of undulating tiles, “like the scales of a dragon that vibrate with movement and light”. The storefront features alternating transparent, translucent and opaque window surfaces, which “offer glimpses of the vivid collections and objects within”.
