US beef exports continued to fall in April
14/06/2019
According to data from the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF), total beef exports during the month were just over 105,000 tonnes, down 5% year-on-year. The value of these dropped slightly to $674.2 million.
In the first four months of the year, exports were 4% lower in volume and 1% lower in value.
Returning to April’s data, average beef export value per head of fed slaughter was $305.61, down 7% year-on-year. Exports accounted for 12.5% of total US beef production during the month.
The disappointing performance came despite strength in the South Korean market. Exports to this country were up 18% in volume and 22% in value in April, compared to the same month of last year.
