Strong end to first half for US beef exports

US beef exports increased in value and in volume in June, according to the latest data from the US Meat Export Federation (USMEF). In terms of value, it was the fourth strongest monthly total on record.

The volume of beef exported during the month was more than 118,000 tonnes. This figure was 3% higher than in June 2018. The value of these exports was 1% higher year-on-year at $724.8 million. 

June’s exports accounted for 15.4% of total US beef production, while beef export value per head of fed slaughter was $325.10, up 4% from a year ago. 

For the first half of 2019, the total volume of beef exported from the US was just under 650,000 tonnes, 2% lower compared the same period of last year. Export value was flat at $4.03 billion.
