The German police have carried out searches of offices owned by automaker Daimler as part of an investigation into suspicions of fraudulent emissions data.

The company, which owns Mercedes-Benz, confirmed that the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office ordered the search as part of an ongoing operation. Daimler said that “known and unknown employees” were under suspicion of “fraud and criminal advertising” related to the possible manipulation of diesel exhaust emissions.

It added that it was cooperating fully with the authorities, but would not comment any further on the ongoing preliminary investigations.
