Mercedes-Benz has said it is extending its “industrial commitment” in Russia after announcing investment of €250 million to build a new passenger car plant in the country, where it will make vehicles for the regional market.

Production at the new facility in the Moscow region is scheduled to start in 2019, beginning with the E-Class Sedan. It will also build the GLE, GLC and GLS SUV Models. The plant will create 1,000 new jobs, according to Mercedes-Benz.

The facility will be managed by Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing RUS (MBMR), a new company. It will be headed by Axel Bense, who will be site manager and CEO of the new company.
