Daimler appoints chief design officer
Mercedes owner Daimler has appointed Gorden Wagener to the newly created position of chief design officer. He assumed the role on November 1.

The company said the move is designed to “strengthen the significance and responsibility of the role of design” for its products and brands.

Mr Wagener has been head of design at Daimler since 2008, overseeing the design of all the company’s brands and products. He joined Mercedes-Benz in 1998, having worked as an exterior designer for various other brands.

“Good design is much more than simply creating beautiful products: it combines function with fascination and gives brand values an unmistakable form,” said Dr Dieter Zetche, CEO of Daimler and head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

He described the team led by Mr Wagener as “among the best in the industry” and attributed the brand’s success in part to their “outstanding design”.
