Nigeria: New fair hopes to inject life into leather

A new leather fair is coming to Nigeria’s largest city next month to promote the country’s industry, seeking to lessen reliance on imports.

Nigeria is home to a vast livestock population but its leather industry is relatively undeveloped. The country imports about $500 million worth of leather products per year, according to local press.

Around 50 exhibitors, including tanneries from Kano and leathergoods manufacturers, have signed up to the Lagos Leather Fair. It will take place between June 2 and 4 at the Federal Palace Hotel.
