Dr Ikpeazu said he had reached an agreement with Huajian chairman, Zhang Huarong, at a recent Nigeria-China investment forum. He said the production facility the Chinese company will build in Aba will employ 10,000 people and produce around 5,000 pairs of shoes per day.
Media in Nigeria have quoted Mr Zhang as saying he was impressed that Dr Ikpeazu had taken the trouble to visit him to discuss the idea of investment. The investment forum took place in Guangzhou in mid-April and Huajian’s headquarters are in nearby Dongguan.
Huajian has already invested in shoe production in Ethiopia.
