No let-up in demand for crocodile skins
An Australian crocodile farm has announced plans to double in size to keep up with demand for high-quality skins from European fashion houses.
Darwin Farm will boost animal numbers – currently 73,000 – by between 10% and 20% but will give the animals more room to lessen the potential of damage to the skins.
Owner Mick Burns said customers are increasingly asking for higher quality skins. "There are a number of issues that affect the skin, some of them we understand, some of them we don't."
He estimates the expansion will double the Northern Territory's $20 million crocodile leather industry.
