Lanxess makes its leather fashion trends predictions for AW 15-16
16/06/2014
Lanxess’s idea is to offer tanners insight into what their customers will be looking for for that fashion season in terms of the look and feel of the leather they buy. It has also prepared recipes and practical processing instructions to allow tanners to implement any new trend early.
Four trend topics dominate: Darkness Chic, Great Beauty, Romantic Flair and Organic Inspiration.
In the first of these, the focus should be on “clean, minimalistic elegance”, Lanxess has said, to bring out “a refined simplicity, reinventing the magic of dark”. Glossy and firm calfskin, oily brush-off leather and patent leather with light and shadow effects will work particularly well here, the company believes.
Great Beauty is, Lanxess says, the rediscovery of Italian history, awakening the ghost of a centuries-old culture in a modern and beautiful way. Fine crocodile and python, as well as sheepskin with an opalescent or glossy look, as well matt, satin and metal finishing effects will fit this theme.
For the third trend, Romantic Flair, the company says the focus is on strong emotions and the beauty of nature as sources of aesthetic experience and the recognition of the picturesque, emphasizing the subjective, the imaginative and the visionary. For this one, specially recommended materials are calfskin with floral designs, velvet-printed suede, and semi-dull lacquer with a porcelain-effect.
The last one, Organic Inspiration, is about natural looks to emphasise leather’s characteristics as a sustainable material in terms of the environment and social responsibility. Calfskin with light specific weight, printed nubuck and sheepskin suede with writing effects will lend themselves well this time.
