Crocodiles on vegetarian diet to improve skin

Crocodile breeders at a farm group in Zimbabwe have stopped feeding the animals meat after deciding it was both cheaper and resulted better-quality skins.

Oliver Kamundimu, financial director of Padenga Holdings, said: "It improves the quality because we now measure all the nutrients that we are putting in there, which the crocodile may not get from meat only.”

Last year, Padenga sold 42,000 skins to tanneries in Europe, especially France, where the average skin fetches $550.
