Kering announces expansion plans for France Croco
07/11/2013
Kering acquired a majority stake in France Croco in March 2013, saying it wanted to secure a sustainable supply of high-quality crocodile skins and promising to increase production.
It has now announced that it will move the facility a few kilometres from Saint-Martin-d’Aubigny to a new plant at Périers, allowing it to expand the workforce from 55 at present to more than 200. The mayor of Périers, Gabriel Daube, has told local media that work on building the new tannery will begin towards the end of 2014.
Reports say that Kering will invest EUR 15 million in the project, with the authorities in Périers committing to securing funding from central government to build a new EUR 1.8 million effluent treatment plant. “A tannery uses a lot of water,” Mr Daube commented at the time of the announcement, “the same amount as a town of 4,000 inhabitants.”
