Croc farms could be lucrative, says Australian government

The Australian government has published a report suggesting the northern territories should invest in crocodile farming as demand for meat and skins increases.

Around 10% of the skins favoured by European fashion houses come from Australia, according to the draft policy document looking into boosting the nation’s north.

However, famers say they face a lack of support.

Angela Freeman, from Hartley’s Crocodile Farm, said: “If we were able to get some funding to assist us with housing some of these larger crocs that are problematic, then we can look at putting some of these animals together and forming some more breeding colonies so we can get a little bit more volume happening, in terms of our breeding.”
