‘Luxury is back’: Survey shows top brands' value rose 16% in a year

Louis Vuitton has again topped the luxury companies listed in the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands, a survey produced by consultancy Milward Brown.

The French fashion house came 30th, with a brand value of $25.8 billion – 14% higher than last year.

The next-highest luxury brand, in 41st place, was Hermes, with another 14% increase in value at $21.8 billion. Gucci ranked 60th, with its value up 27% at $16.1 billion, while the only other leathergoods company to make the top 100, Prada, rose 27% to $10 billion and was ranked in 96th place.

“If the 9th annual edition of the Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands tells us anything, it is that the recession is over,” said Milward Brown.

The top 100 brands added $310 billion to reach $2.9 trillion in brand value, a 12% increase over last year.

“Luxury is back,” it added. “Consumers purchased enthusiastically and without apology.” The category brand value rose 16%, following a 6% rise a year ago.

The other leathergoods specialists in the top 10 luxury brands are Chanel, Burberry, Coach and Fendi.

The top three global brands are Google, Apple and IBM.
