Coach to focus on leather as it shuts 20% of North American stores

Leathergoods brand Coach has said it will up its focus on leather in a bid to turn round ailing fortunes that have led to a 20% decline in sales in the three months to March 31.

It will close about 70, or 20%, of 351 stores in North America where customers will see “less logo, more leather, more lifestyle categories", according to North America head of retail Francine Della Badia.

Analysts suggest lower-than-expected online sales could be contributing to the decline.

The news comes as rivals in the mid-range, such as Michael Kors, report rocketing sales.
