Coach invests in New York infrastructure

The charitable foundation of leathergoods brand Coach has made a $5 million donation to a public transport network in New York, in a commitment to the neighbourhood it has called home since the company's founding in 1941.

Coach's new global headquarters will be located in Hudson Yards, a 26-acre site that encompasses the largest piece of undeveloped property in Manhattan and which will be the biggest development since the Rockefeller Center in the 1930s.

Coach will occupy 15 storeys of the South Tower, with the first stage scheduled to be completed by June 2015. It will be connected by the High Line network, which the donation will go towards establishing.

"As a quintessential New York brand and a major employer, Coach has been part of the city's economy since its founding,” said Coach CEO Lew Frankfort. “We are proud to contribute to the historic development and vibrant future of New York's next great neighbourhood, the same neighbourhood we've called home for more than half a century.”

Robert Hammond, co-founder of Friends of the High Line, said: "Once the entire freight rail structure is complete and open to the public, the High Line will provide an historic link, connecting our city's industrial past with the new development, for future generations of New Yorkers to enjoy."
