Billy Tannery turns to reed beds for effluent treatment

Founder Jack Millington filled a drum with pea gravel and planted various reed species. “Once these are established, the mat of roots will be in the gravel and we’ll gradually started feeding our effluent in there. This will be eaten by the microbes in the reeds and clean the water,” he said.
He has also taken delivery of new tanning machinery, with the aim of moving to a larger site.
In May, the company will announce details of a collaboration with British Pasture Leather, combining Billy's wild deer leather with "regenerative" cowhide (from cows on regenerative farms).
The company is also working on designs for a range of leather pet accessories.
