Leatherbiz.com reported in September that The Billy Tannery brand was aiming to transform a “largely redundant” site in the village of Arnesby into a micro-tannery, which will produce no more than 150kg of crust leather per week.
The planning applications was approved by Harborough District Council on November 3, subject to certain conditions, including that work commence within three years.
The brand is planning to launch a range of bags and accessories on crowdfunding site Kickstarter in Spring 2017, with the eventual aim of generating the funds to launch the business as a direct-to-consumer retail brand.
