Plans submitted for new UK goatskin tannery

A new British leather brand is hoping to convert an agricultural building in Leicestershire, UK into a tannery specialising in goat hides.

The Billy Tannery brand wants to transform the “largely redundant” site in the village of Arnesby into a micro-tannery. It would produce no more than 150kg of crust leather per week.

A proposal filed with the local council contains an environmental statement, which says the designs for the tannery have been prepared with leather industry experts, including those from the University of Northampton’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT).

Local media reports that the Billy Tannery is planning to start a campaign on crowdfunding site Kickstarter to finance the launch.
