China: leather industry ‘will never go down’

A delegation from China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) recently visited Lanshan county in Hunan province to find out more about the development of the leathergoods and luggage industry in the region.

The CLIA delegation learned more about the construction of a 10,000-acre leathergoods and luggage industrial park from local administrators, in addition to opportunities for investment.

In turn, CLIA representatives led by the organisation’s executive vice chairman and secretary general, Chen Zhanguang, discussed the development of - and difficulties faced by - China’s leathergoods industry. Future development trends and how to strengthen to influence of local brands on the global stage were also topics of discussion.

A spokesperson for Lanshan county’s party committee described leathergoods and luggage as a “sunrise” industry that “will never go down”.

They also said that the locality will strive to make Lanshan the “innovation capital” of leathergoods in China, as well as an anchor for the cultivation of well-known, high-quality brands.
