Les Ateliers de Fitlieu will eventually provide jobs for one hundred craftspeople. It also has a training school for saddlery, leathergoods, cutting and leather mechanics.
This new site complements existing facilities in Belley, Iséroise and Savoie. More than fifty craftspeople undertake initial or further training at these hubs, before completing their apprenticeships in a production workshop.
Announcing the opening of the Fitlieu workshop, Hermès CEO Axel Dumas said: “This new leathergoods workshop is a testament to our commitment to the region. Hermès objects are above all the fruit of the skills of the women and men who apply their know-how at Hermès.”
Hermès is in the process of establishing further leather workshops in Guyenne and Montereau. It has said the foundation stones for these sites will be laid in June and September respectively. Each will employ more than 250 artisans.
