Hermès says ‘authentic materials’ are crucial to its leathergoods growth

Luxury group Hermès has reported revenue of €4.3 billion for the first three quarters of 2018 (up to September 30), an increase of 10.7% at constant exchange rates compared to the same period of last year.

This comes off the back of a strong third quarter during which the group’s revenue increased 9.6% year on year to just under €1.5 billion.

For the first nine months of the year, revenue from Hermès’s leathergoods and saddlery business increased 9.2% to €2.2 billion. The company attributed this success to “collections that combine traditional know-how and implement authentic, singular materials”. It said this was the case for both its classic bags and for more recent models.

It also pointed to an increase in its leathergoods production capacity, highlighting the opening of the Manufacture de L’Allan workshop in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in early April and the plans for new workshops in Guyenne and Montereau.

Hermès said it saw overall revenue growth across all geographical regions, including Asia excluding Japan (+13.8%), the Americas (+13%) and Europe excluding France (+7.1%).
