Luxury leathergoods brand Hermès has opened a new store in the city of Xi’an, capital of the Chinese province of Shaanxi.

This takes the total number of Hermès stores in China to 25 and the company said opening this new store is “a strong statement of expansion and unwavering confidence in the market”.

The new store covers 255 square-metres and, according to Hermès, “draws on a very mineral inspiration”, which it says echoes Xi’an’s status as one of the oldest cities in China and one of its four ancient capitals.

Leathergoods, shoes and ready-to-wear for women and men are important parts of the collection available in the Xi’an store, while perfume, jewellery, watches and accessories for the home also feature.

Hermès opened its first store in China, in the Peninsula Hotel in Beijing, in 1997.
