He is the permanent replacement for Richard Norton, who stepped down from the role in December. MLA’s chief financial officer Andrew Ferguson has filled in during the search for a successor and will continue to do so until Mr Strong takes over on April 1.
It marks a return for Mr Strong, who previously served as MLA’s regional manager for Europe and Russia. He also made an important contribution to the Meat Standards Australia (MSA) programme during its early stages.
MLA chair Michele Allan said she was “extremely confident” that Mr Strong would make a positive impact on the organisation. She added: “He returns to MLA with comprehensive red meat and livestock experience, knowledge and connections - from the farm through to the end consumer - in both domestic and international markets.”
For his part, Mr Strong said: “I am looking forward to working with MLA’s board, staff, red meat producers and the broader industry to make certain we are best positioned to respond to the challenges and opportunities ahead. I want to ensure MLA’s current programmes and projects continue to deliver value, but also identify and implement what is required for the future success of the red meat industry.”
