Smit & zoon sets out its stall for ACLE 2018

It acquired the Italian leather chemicals producer, which is based in the Santa Croce sull’Arno in the heart of the Tuscan tanning cluster, in November 2017.
Smit & zoon’s collection for ACLE 2018 (August 29-31) will include an extensive range of shoe upper and upholstery leathers produced using products from its own portfolio as well as that of Codyeco.
In particular, the company has highlighted its Syntan ZLR 100 chrome-free retanning agent, which will be presented on furniture upholstery leather. Smit & zoon has said this product, based on the mineral zeolite, offers high uptake of the retanning chemicals, fatliquors and dyes used during the leather crusting process. This helps reduce the amount of chemicals required, as well as reducing chemical content in the resulting wastewater. It is said to produce leather with clean, bright and intense colours.

Smit & zoon will also launch a new version of its Product Passport at ACLE 2018. First published last year, this booklet offers an overview of the performance of Smit & zoon’s wet-end chemicals on leather and on the environment. It is designed to help tanners make more informed chemical choices.
