This means the Montorso facility, which is where Smit & zoon produces chemicals for leather finishing, now has accreditation under ISO 9001 for quality management, under ISO 14001 for environmental management and now also under OHSAS 18001 for health and safety in the workplace.
“Achieving OHSAS 18001 is a major milestone for us,” said managing director of the finishing business unit, Jeroen Schipper. “It reflects the care we take to look after our employees, our customers and our business partners at all times. This is embedded into every aspect of our business.”
Smit & zoon’s plant in Nanjing, China, received the OHSAS 18001 certification in 2016. The company hopes its plants in the Netherlands, its home country, will receive the same certification soon.
Separately, Smit & zoon has announced that, from January 2018, it will focus entirely on the leather industry. It has sold its functional oils division to a pet food company, IQI.
