Smit & zoon launches ‘Product Passport’ for wet-end chemicals
Leather chemicals manufacturer Smit & zoon has announced the commercial launch of a new ‘Product Passport’, which it has described as “an easy-to-use overview with data on the performance of wet-end chemicals on both leather and on the environment”.

At the time of the launch, Marc Smit, seventh-generation owner of the company, said the move was in response to “the need to achieve traceability of substances throughout the chain”, which he said is becoming more evident on a daily basis.

The company’s technical manager for leather, Dirick von Behr, added: “After several years of analysing our key wet-end products, we are very pleased that we are now able to share the valuable data with our customers. This broad level of insights into a leather chemical’s performance on leather and especially on a tannery’s waste stream is unique. The Product Passport is another step in the reduction of the leather industry’s footprint.”
