Mauritius looks to revamp its leather industry

He was speaking at a workshop dedicated to developing a national leather strategy. It was attended by forty stakeholders from the leather sector, as well as consultants from COMESA and the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI).
The aim of the event was to bring together key stakeholders from the leather value chain to identify their role in developing the leather sector. During the meeting, they had the opportunity to share their views on the current status of the Mauritian leather sector.
Mr Bholah said the development of a new national strategy is of high importance if Mauritius is to revamp its leather sector and gain access to niche markets. He added that the country’s SMEs can play a key role in the manufacturing of leather items, such as footwear and garments.
