The Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) has helped the government of Mauritius develop a new strategy for its leather value chain. This strategy was officially launched in May.

The launch event took place in the country’s Moka district following a workshop attended by more than 50 representatives from government ministries, institutions, academia and the private sector. Professor Mwinyikione Mwinyihija, executive director of ALLPI, delivered the opening remarks at the launch event.

In his address, Soomilduth Bholah, Mauritius’ minister of business, enterprises and cooperatives, emphasised the government’s commitment to revamping the country’s leather industry, highlighting its potential for job creation and wealth generation. He called on industry stakeholders to work together to support the implementation of the new strategy.
