Louis Vuitton to boost domestic production

04/04/2018
LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton has announced it will build at least two new workshops in France in the next 12 months as it seeks to expand its leathergoods and handbag production.

The first of these, the brand’s fifteenth, will be opened in La Merlatière, in France’s Vendée department, this summer. It will be followed at the start of 2019 by another workshop in Beaulieu-sur-Layon, in the Maine-et-Loire department.

The two sites will employ a total of 500 people within two years, the company has said. This will bring its manufacturing workforce in France to more than 4,000 people.

Louis Vuitton did not open a new leathergoods workshop between 2011 and 2017. This period of inactivity was broken by a new manufacturing site in the town of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule, where the brand already operates a number of workshops.
