Louis Vuitton wants to increase domestic leathergoods production

05/02/2018
The chief executive of luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton, Bernard Arnault, has revealed the company plans to open a new leathergoods workshop in La Merlatière, in the Pays de La Loire region of France, in the next few months.

It would be Louis Vuitton’s fifteenth leathergoods workshop in the country. The most recent was opened in Saint-Pourçain in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region at the end of 2017.

Mr Arnault said the workshop in La Merlatière will create 200 new jobs, adding to the 650 artisans Louis Vuitton already employs in the region.

He explained that the “pro-business” policies of the French government have encouraged Louis Vuitton to accelerate the expansion of its domestic manufacturing operations.
