Louis Vuitton considers opening US production facility

The chief executive of luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton, Michael Burke, has said it is working to open a manufacturing facility in the US in order to meet increasing demand for its leather handbags.

He made the comments at Louis Vuitton’s show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, according to Bloomberg. It may also add additional production facilities in France and expand its workshop in Portugal, he added.

The idea of Louis Vuitton building a new factory in the US was first suggested during a visit by Bernard Arnault, chairman of parent company LVMH, in January.

Mr Burke also revealed in Paris that Louis Vuitton had put a cap on orders of some of its product to preserve their luxury status. “It’s the very definition of luxury to have an exclusive product,” he explained.
