Is the golden age of the handbag coming to an end?
The end of 2016 saw a decrease in the number of different handbag styles being introduced by leading luxury fashion brands, according to fashion industry analysis company Edited.

Edited has reported that in the final three months of the year, the number of new styles introduced by Michael Kors dropped 24% compared to the previous quarter. It was a similar story at Prada and LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton, which both offered 35% fewer new designs, while Burberry’s number dropped 8%.

Katie Smith, a fashion analyst at Edited, said brands are finding it hard to strike a balance between having too much inventory, commonly referred to as “dead stock”, and ensuring there are enough new styles to attract consumers.
