Mipel faces up to market challenges

More than 300 brands displayed their collections for autumn-winter 2018/19 at the 113th edition of the Mipel leathergoods show, which took place from 11 to 14 February in Milan.

Mipel is co-located with footwear exhibition Micam, occupying hall 10 of the Rho exhibition site.

The organiser of the event, Italian leathergoods manufacturers’ association AIMPES, said it expected more than 12,000 buyers to attend from across the world. It thanked the Italian Ministry for Economic Development and foreign trade promotion agency ICE for helping to promote the event overseas.

The first Mipel of 2018 saw the debut of a new zone, Spazio, which is dedicated to international brands and manufacturers of bags, travel goods, small leathergoods and fashion accessories.

Riccardo Braccialini, president of AIMPES as well as of the Mipel exhibition, said: “Investing for growth. Investing in youngsters. Believing in our own history. These are the keywords that over recent years have enabled the driving force that is Mipel to pick up its path of progress, taking on the challenges posed by the market and an increasingly wider and more fragmented trade fair scenario.”

He described the event as “a benchmark for Italian and international buyers looking for beautiful, well-made bags and fashion accessories.”
